Ray Lobato finds his way to this collective soul, each piece a source from which we may find and manifest clarity and peace in life.
In this series of work, I fragment popular symbols and objects into "facets" and combine evocative imagery with a skewed dimensionality so that viewers may re-evaluate or enhance their unique understanding of these subjects.
Ray paints with stain on poplar wood panels. He makes 2- to 4-inch deep strainer bars and attaches the panels, then preps and sands. Water-based stain is applied with one- and two-inch flat brushes. A protective matte coating finishes each piece.
